It beats Primogeniture by a long shot, even with a large kingdom/empire, because as long as you are cautious about tyranny, it is very easy to keep your electors placated and make them vote for your preferred heir. After gaining just a little bit of experience with the game, you can basically never go wrong with Elective Monarchy.
